Fun night out at Rodmarton Village Hall

IF you come to Rodmarton Village Hall on Friday, February 18, you're in for a very unusual and fun night out with the Carnival Band.

Originally called the Mediaeval Players, they have ignored neat categories from the very beginning, preferring instead to turn the music upside down, inside out and back to front in true carnival fashion.

Falling between early music, world music, folk music and classical, they like to confuse styles, blur edges and mix categories. It's all part of the carnival ethos and a refusal to be pinned down.

The band know they are not authentic and they love it!

They also love and respect the traditions on which they draw and they just want to have fun with the music and share their enjoyment with their audience.

Their music covers periods from the middle ages to almost modern times and comes from all over the world, played on a range of early and modern instruments. They also burst into song with great enthusiasm.

The Carnival Band has toured the world with folk supremo Maddy Prior, with whom they have made a CD.

The concert, which is in aid of the Hop, Skip and Jump Respite Centre at Seven Springs, near Cheltenham, begins at 7.30pm. Tickets from the Rev Stanley Emson on 01285 841348.
