Highworth Town FC pay the penalty in League Cup

FAILURE to convert penalty kicks cost Highworth Town FC dear in Saturday's second round League Cup tie which they lost 3-4 . A slow-starting Town soon found themselves two goals down against visiting Almondsbury and facing dismissal from the competition.

With no further score in the first half, the hosts came out with greater determination to face a daunting second half.

Manager Fisher's half-time team talk produced the desired result and, with a minute to go to full time, the scores were tied at two each.

The award of a penalty to Highworth in the last minute should have seen their passage into the next round, but failure to convert the kick took the game into extra time.

The extra period produced no further goals, meaning the final outcome would be decided on a dreaded penalty shoot-out.

Once again, Highworth's ability with spot kicks was found wanting and Almondsbury progressed by a score of four penalties to three.

Highworth first team visits Wantage on league duty this Saturday.
