Dedicated lollipop lady retires after 30 years

THE longest serving lollipop lady in Wiltshire is hanging up her stick after more than 30 years in Ashton Keynes.

Every afternoon Shirley Indge has stood outside the village primary school ensuring the safety of children crossing the road and has even crossed the children of parents who went to the same school 20 years or more before.

Last week school children presented her with a leaving gift at a special carol service at the church.

She said: "I have really enjoyed being lollipop lady for this school and I will miss all the children."

Wiltshire County Council crossing patrol manager Tazril Tamin said: "Being a crossing patroller is not an easy job but it can be so rewarding.

"Patrollers go out in all weathers to make sure children have a safe journey to and from school.

"Shirley is our longest ever serving crossing patroller and two years ago she received a long service award from the council.

"We would like to say thank you for all the hard work and commitment she has given over the years."
