Mother Goose is traditional fun

THE production of Mother Goose at The Roses Theatre, Tewkesbury has all the ingredients of the traditional pantomime.

The sets are sparkly, the costumes are outrageous, the principal boy is a girl, the dame is a chap and the goose is, well, a goose.

There are plenty of silly songs, awful egg jokes, custard pies, lots of booing and hissing, good fairies and a happy ending.

The settings include the farm in the pretty village of Middle-Widdle-on-the-Tiddle where Mother Goose lives with her two sons, Archie, who gets everything wrong, and the handsome Jack - and her very best friend, Priscilla the Goose.

There are also scenes in Skinflint Hall, where nasty, greedy Squire Spartacus Skinflint lives with his bodyguard, the rather stupid Hercules Cruncher, and his lovely daughter Jill, who is more than a little smitten with Mother Goose's son Jack.

The enchanted Waterfall of Beauty and The Fountain of Youth on the outskirts of the village provide more settings, as does the Underworld, home to the evil (but charming) Demon King (boo, hiss!!)

But, as always, good overcomes evil and, with the help of Fairy Betty and the magic of Priscilla, everything comes right in the end. The show runs until Saturday, January 8. Tickets from the box office on 01684 295074.
