Swindon manage to share spoils in a draw with Doncaster

AFTER an appalling display against Huddersfield on Wednes-day of last week, Swindon Town managed a slightly improved performance to draw 1-1 with Doncaster Rovers on Saturday, writes Ben Maggs.

Considering the Robins' last two home games had seen them hammering Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City, it was a great surprise that Town were a goal down at half-time on the weekend.

Frankly, they were terrible, but an improved second-half display saw them produce some decent football that was enough to force an equaliser through super Sam Parkin.

Manager Andy King, who was pleased with the way his side performed after the break, said:

"They found a desire to go forward and play the game. With one on one out wide, we started to take people on instead of going for the easy option.

"They started to get past people and deliver the ball into the box. Although we were not fantastic, we did have four or five chances in front of goal through the extra urgency that we found, and that is the sort of reward you get from stepping up a gear."

Last night (Wednesday), Swindon were due to take on Notts County in the FA Cup second round replay and, on Saturday, they return to the bread and butter of the league with a trip to Bournemouth.

Bournemouth, who are flying high at the moment, have 34 points and occupy fourth spot, which certainly signifies that they will be no pushovers.

Daniel Rodrigues will be one to watch as the Portuguese striker has bagged four this season, and has also started a decent partnership with Steve Fletcher, spearheading the attack.

But Town must start winning soon if they are to begin any sort of assault for the play-offs or, indeed, promotion.
