Fairford looking to bounce from a defeat in Senior Trophy

FAIRFORD Town will look to bounce back from a disappointing exit in the Gloucestershire Senior Trophy with a trip to Headington Amateurs this Saturday for the preliminary round of the GLS Hellenic Supplementary Cup.

Although the Cinder Lane side bowed out of the Trophy in a 2-3 second round defeat away to Screwfix Western League Division One side Almondsbury FC on Saturday, Fairford still have hopes of getting to the final of the Norman Matthews Floodlit Cup.

For a semi-final place beckons for the previous winners of this competition, if Fairford can overcome their Trowbridge Town hosts in next Wednesday evening's quarter-final clash.

If Fairford are successful, they will play hosts to Almondsbury Town in a two-legged semi-final with the first leg set for either January 25 or 25, 2005.

To round off a hectic December, Fairford's final Hellenic Premier game of 2004 will be a local league derby at home to table-topping Highworth Town on Monday, December 27.

Last Tuesday evening, Fairford Town returned to Hellenic Premier action with a bang, gaining a 3-1 victory away to Hungerford.

All four goals were scored in the first half with Tong giving the hosts a 25th-minute lead.

But a Lee Stoddart brace, in the 35th and 43rd minutes, and a goal from Coles on 37 minutes, gave the visitors all three points.
