THE famous Father Willis organ in Cirencester Parish Church is shortly to be turned into a Mighty Wurlitzer for one night when organ supremo Nigel Ogden plays live in concert on Saturday, December 11 at 7.45pm.
Nigel, presenter of the long running BBC Radio Two programme The Organist Entertains for over 25 years, is one of the UK's top theatre organ players but is equally at home with church, cinema and electronic organs.
His recordings of light music at the organs of Hereford and Lincoln cathedrals have met with great critical acclaim.
For his Cirencester visit Nigel will be playing a wide range of foot tapping music from Bach to the Beatles, including marches, show tunes, popular standards, theatre organ music and light classics. During the concert, close-up pictures of Nigel playing will be shown on a large screen installed at the front of the church especially for the occasion, enabling the audience to see, as well as hear him play.
"Nigel Ogden is one of the most respected theatre organists in the country and we are delighted that he has found time in his busy schedule to visit Cirencester. But be warned! This is not the average academic classical organ recital. The programme will be extremely entertaining and will include something to suit all musical tastes," said Neil Shepherd, director of music at the Parish Church and himself a well-known theatre organist.
