HIGHWORTH Town visited Almondsbury on Saturday with an air of confidence following a mid-week Hellenic Premier victory away to Milton United by three goals to nil.
Maintaining their series of wins in the league, they also kept a clean sheet in the process.
With the return of Ross Adams to the central defence and Justin Miller's continuing improvement in match fitness, expectations were high in the visitors' camp.
Within the first few minutes, these were further raised by Wayne Cleverley scoring, and a commanding win looked almost a certainty.
However, despite Highworth controlling play throughout the game, no further score ensued.
This was due in no small measure to Almondsbury's Bulgarian International youth team goalkeeper, who had an inspired match and dealt confidently with everything that Highworth's superiority caused to be thrown at him.
As a result of his performance, the ultimate outcome remained in doubt until the final whistle.
Thankfully, that solitary goal brought the Town a further three points and another clean sheet.
Sadly, and for the second Saturday running, Highworth suffered the ignominy of having a player sent off.
With two players now red-carded, this could well cause selection problems in December when the inevitable suspensions take effect.
Meanwhile, the Reserves, playing at home to Cheltenham Saracens, were beaten by three goals to one.
The Highworth team, which last season were playing in youth football, is steadily adjusting to the demands of competing in the reserve section of a Senior League.
