Local ladies are on the ball against visiting Cam Bulldogs

CIRENCESTER Ladies put the previous week's defeat behind them by getting back to winning ways with a 2-1 home victory against Cam Bulldogs on Sunday.

Karen Meredith had to pull on the keeper's jersey, due to an injury to the regular custodian, but wasn't called upon on many occasions.

As it was, her defence did a good job protecting her and the entire side looked a different outfit to the last week with Town dominating much of the play.

The hosts took the lead on 20 minutes when Lynne Bradbury was brought down in the box and Joey Clarkson stepped up to converted the spot-kick with confidence.

Going in at half-time with the one-goal advantage, Town went two up ten minutes into the second half.

A good through ball by Lynne Bradbury allowed Joey Clarkson to score her second. Ruth Senior then came on up front to make her debut.

After looking very much in control, Cirencester conceded a free kick on the edge of the box which Cam's no 9 stroked into the top corner of the net.

This gave the visitors confidence and they pressed forward in the last couple of minutes.

But Cirencester stood firm to take all three points with Rachel Newman, working hard just in front of the defence, winning the player of the match award.
