CHELTENHAM Operatic and Dramatic Society presents Robert Harling's sparkling and moving comedy, Steel Magnolias, at The Playhouse Theatre, Cheltenham from September 4-11.
Whether you see yourself, your sister or a friend in one of the six women who come together in Steel Magnolias, you are sure to be reminded of the true values of friendship and the reason why every woman should spend money on her highlights.
Steel Magnolias is a funny and touching comedy-drama set in a local Louisiana beauty parlour where having a cut and blow dry also means endless small town gossip about life, love and friendship.
The relationships between Truvy, the parlour owner, her eager but inexperienced assistant Annelle, and their friends Clairee, Ouiser, M'Lynn and Shelby, are tested to the limits when tragedy strikes and the depth of love and friendship underlying their idle banter is revealed.
The play, which is based on real events in the author's life, was first produced on stage in 1987 and has become a timeless favourite. More information from www.cods.org.uk
