John Sergeant coming to Wyvern Theatre

IN An Audience with John Sergeant which comes to the Wyvern Theatre on Wednesday, September 8 at 7.30pm, one of television's best known newsmen tells the story of his very varied life.

John, until recently political editor of ITN, was previously with the BBC for 30 years. He had a wide-ranging career as a reporter covering conflicts in many parts of the world, including Vietnam, the Middle East and South Africa, before settling down as a political correspondent.

He often travelled with the Prime Minister of the day, including Margaret Thatcher, John Major and Tony Blair. He has presented all the main news programmes on Radio 4, including Today and the World at One.

In recent years he has been allowed to return to his first love in broadcasting - light entertainment - appearing as a guest in a wide variety of programmes, including Have I Got News For You, Room 101, and the News Quiz on Radio 4. It's not hard to see how he almost became a comic actor instead of a newsman.

Two years ago John published his best-selling memoirs, Give Me Ten Seconds and he is now writing a book about Margaret Thatcher, who made him well known following the famous 'handbagging' incident outside the Paris Embassy two days before she resigned in 1990.
