NINE riders contested the penultimate race in Corinium Cycling Club's season-long ten-mile time trial series.
Held last Thursday, it turned out to be a great night with the the club's course record falling to this year's star rider, Alasdair McCleery.
He excelled in the good conditions, clipping two seconds off the record with 22min 51sec for a personal best time.
Second place saw a battle royale between Andrew Smith and vet Allan Norwood with the latter claiming the honours by four seconds with 23.37 as both riders came mighty close to PB of 23.31 and 23.34 respectively.
Next in was club treasurer, Derek Mitchell, having a great season with another PB by one second at 24.38.
Other times recorded are as follows: Andrew Wilcox at 25.23, new member Stephen Chapman with another PB of 26.49, vet Mike Appleby 28.21, vet Denis Hedges 29.34 and recent new member, ex-runner, Peter Stevens, with another PB at 29.58.
To prove what a perfect night it had been, Swindon RC rider Steve Marchant also broke his club record at 21.35.
Riders' thanks go to Mike Appleby and his helpers, including Noel MacKenzie who organised the refreshments in Bud Dutton's rare absence.
Tonight (Thursday) sees the conclusion of the TT series, and there is still the club's annual hill climb next Thursday, September 2, to come.
On the touring front, members are pencil on the date of Sunday, October 3, when the club will be joining the Gridiron, a 100km randonee through the New Forest from Lymington via Beaulieu to Nomansland.
