Swindon Tennis League's mixed division one title falls to Swindon A

WITH two games still to contest in the Swindon & District Tennis League, Swindon A have finally claimed the mixed division one title.

A comfortable 8-0 victory over Wootton Bassett A stretched their winning sequence to ten matches and put them out of reach of all their rivals.

Swindon took the division two title last year without dropping a point, and this year's team includes two of last year's team, Ben Scarlett and Gemma Casey, along with coach Rob Negus and Becky Poole.

In mixed division two, Pewsey B lost 5-3 to Minety A, a result which means that the Pewsey team will finish in second place.

The division two title goes to the Chiseldon A team of Matt Beeston, Ron Engelbert, Sara Brazell and Tracey Jackson, ably supported by substitutes Tony Morgan and Rachel Whatley.

In men's division one, Ramsbury B are the unlucky losers in an exciting relegation battle.

With a 6-2 defeat at the hands of Wootton Bassett A in their last match of the season, they finish with ten points, just a point behind Pewsey A and Minety A.

Usually ten points are enough to guarantee safety, but not this time around.

In men's division four, Allied Dunbar needed to win their last match 8-0 to prevent Chiseldon B taking the runners-up spot.

However, they could only draw with Swindon A, leaving the Chiseldon side with the second promotion place.

In the ladies' section, the reigning champions, Purton A, went back to the top of division one with an easy 8-0 victory over Ramsbury A - but cannot yet claim the title.

In ladies' division three, Aldbourne made certain of the runners-up spot by beating third-placed Wanborough A 5-3 with four sets from Maggie Grant and Elizabeth Stedman. Latest results are as follows:
