Hundreds of hoverflies invade garden

HOVERFLIES have invaded Ann Skinley's front garden in their hundreds.

The harmless yellow and black insects have taken over the foliage-filled garden in Golden Farm Road, Cirencester.

Ann said: "The first time I noticed them was last Monday.

"I thought they would go after the thunder storms but they were still there. "I haven't noticed them and if I had they wouldn't have been so prolific."

The hoverflies have a particular liking for a holly-type of bush in the garden that surrounds a letterbox on the public pavement.

Ann said: "If you touch the bush they just spring out, and also when cars go past from the vibrations."

There have been reports of nuisance hoverflies across Britain since the hot weather began.

Experts believe the climate is attracting the insects from across the Channel.
