McCleary dominates another Corinium Club Cycling event

IN the latest of Corinium Cycling Club's season-long ten-mile time trial series, Alasdair McCleary continued to dominate in Armstrong style!

With yet another win under his belt, McCleary rode home ahead of the rest in a superb time of 23min 7sec on a blustery night.

Returning to form with a fine ride was Andrew Smith whose personal best of 23.34 gained him second place.

Not too far behind him came Allan Norwood (veteran) who battled to take third with 23.51.

Other finishers included recent new member Lee Piercy, with 24.02, Derek Mitchell 24.42 and close to a PB, Melvin Packham back with a good ride of 25.36, Gerald Peppin 26.40, new member Steve Chapman with an improved second ride of 26.55 and Noel MacKenzie 27.40.

Recent new member Tonge Haugen impressed with a further improved time as she recorded 28.22, the fastest ride by a lady member this year.

Then came vets Mike Appleby with 28.44 and Denis Hedges with a worthy 29.35 and, bringing up the rear on a mountain bike, was Terry Barry with 31.51.

All in all, it was a successful evening with 47 riders on the start-line, including those from Swindon RC and other clubs.

Steve Marchant (Swindon RC) broke his own club record with a superb ride of 21.53.

Allan Norwood rode the South Bucks RC open 25 on the H25/1 flat course along with 118 competitors.

He timed at exactly one hour and, subject to confirmation, took third prize in the age-related class.
