CIRENCESTER Tennis Club held its first Play Tennis event of two at end of May in lovely weather.
Dudley Georgeson and Penny Allberry, ably assisted by Patrick White and Matthew Cooper, got to grips with the 25 who attended on the basics of the game for the beginners and development of strokes for doubles for the more experienced players.
Another Play Tennis event, scheduled for the Sunday afternoon of July 25, is being organised by Adrian Potter.
Half-term Thursday was a busy one for the club. First there was a junior ladder event in the afternoon for junior members of 11/U at yellow, green and orange.
Prizes of Wilson fun balls were won by Adas Bamforth, Laura Eales (yellow), Tristan Stevens, Michael Cannon, James Sandilands (green), Natalie Bamforth and Jenny Eales (orange).
This was followed by a first time Join-the-Team fun mixed doubles when adults and junior players played together in short matches for either Dudley's or Penny's team.
Some 20 participants enjoyed two hours of doubles play at the end of which Dudley's team was the overwhelming winner.
The club also played host to a County Junior Challenge 10/U and 12/U over half-term.
Joint 10/U winners were Adas Bamforth (Cirencester club) and Edward Green (East Glos). The 12/U event was won by Freddie Nesbitt (Chedworth).
The Winter Mini Orange District event, held at Oxstalls and the South Cotswold District - which included players from Cirencester, Chedworth, Fairford and Lechlade - was won by a mere half a point over Cheltenham district.
Wednesdays 4.45-6pm is junior club night when members from 18 down to seven, who are players at yellow or mini green or orange, can try to climb the Nestles ladders.
The calendar of holidays events is about to be announced, including the ever popular Cirencester Open Junior Tournament.
Commencing on August 2, this regularly attracts well over 120 juniors between ages of eight and 16.
All members and non-members, who are interested in receiving details, are asked to leave their names, addresses and phone numbers on Penny Allberry's answerphone (01285 653140) specifying their particular interests.
