A GROUP of D-Day veterans relived their experiences of the Normandy landings before a room full of awestruck pupils at St Lawrence Primary School in Lechlade.
The six former servicemen took part in a presentation at the Wharf Lane school on Tuesday after one of the school's governors, Denbigh Hamilton-Harding, invited them along to meet the children.
Among the veterans were one man who served on a minesweeper, two Typhoon pilots and two men who piloted the landing craft that took tanks on to the beaches.
The men, two of whom returned to France for last Sunday's 60th anniversary commemoration, gave their individual accounts to a group of 25 Year 6 pupils during the afternoon presentation.
The Year 6 teacher said: "Part of our history curriculum is to teach the children about Britain at war, so knowing that, Denbigh decided he would do this for us and it tied in nicely.
"The children were captivated, I thought they wouldn't be but they listened to all the stories.
"It was just fantastic."
