RUTH Hammond and Emma Hutchinson make a rare joint appearance at The Fleece in Bristol's St Thomas Street on Thursday, June 10.
Each fronting their own full band, they will perform songs from their critically acclaimed debut albums.
Originally from Wootton Bassett, multi-instrumentalist Ruth Hammond has appeared on Later...with Jools Holland, toured as a saxophonist with the internationally successful pop group Morcheeba, and is currently playing keyboards with Bristol band Ilya who have just released their striking debut CD, They Died For Beauty.
Well respected on the jazz/funk scene for her performances with her own jazz trio (Ruth Hammond Trio) and organ trio (Forster Hammond Trio), on her first album release, All The Good Things, Ruth has written nine songs full of warmth and soulful simplicity which emphasise her sensual vocal style.
One of these, Another Day Gone, is included on a new 17 track compilation entitled The Greatest Music You've Never Heard Vol 1, released on May 18 and featuring independent artists, which is being sold to benefit Breakthrough Breast Cancer and to breakthrough independent musical talent throughout the world.
Ruth's music has an understated funkiness and her songs manage to sound retro and refreshingly modern at the same time. Her inspiration is drawn from such master songwriters as Sting, Stevie Winder, Steely Dan and James Taylor.
Tickets from the Bristol Ticket Shop on 0117 929 9008.
