Wiltshire Bowls Association is celebrating its 90th birthday

THE Wiltshire Bowls Association is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year.

On Wednesday of last week, the president of the English Bowling Association, Ian Morrill (Isle of Wight), brought his team to play Wiltshire in a special celebration match.

The EBA team had players from as far away as Devon and Yorkshire and included the legendary David Bryant.

The outcome was a narrow win for the EBA by 121 shots to 117, but the result was a secondary consideration as the main reason for the event was to recognise the landmark in the Wiltshire Bowls Association's history.

Amongst the guests at the match was Cliff Stroud, who played at the Trowbridge Westbourne club for many years.

Cliff was an England international from 1967-73 and again in 1975. In 1972 he was a member of the gold medal winning team that won the fours title at the World Championships.
