FOR anyone growing up in the 1960s and 1970s, Ladybird Books were a quintessential part of childhood and visitors to Bath can indulge in a nostalgic treat by visiting a new exhibition of paintings from Ladybird Books artist John Berry.
The exhibition is at the Victoria Art Gallery, near Poultney Bridge and runs until July 19.
Thanks to a highly successful public appeal for Ladybird titles, the watercolours will be displayed in the exhibition alongside the books they illustrate.
Most of the pictures on show are from the Easy Reading People at Work series that included books such as Car Makers, Navy, Police, Scouts and Learning to Ride.
He also illustrated Black Beauty, the Hannibal Hampster series and several travelogue books about London, Denmark, France and Holland.
"John Berry's paintings are a magnificent glimpse of times gone by," said Jon Benington, curator of the Victoria Art Gallery which is open Tuesday to Friday, 10am-5.30pm, Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 2-5pm.
Telephone 01225 477233.
