Cyclist Higgs shaves off over a minute in best-ever ten-mile time trial

SWINDON RC's cyclist Steve Marchant collected more points with a third place in the Somer Valley CC 29-mile time trial.

This event, held on the A361 near Cranmore, counted towards the WTTA Hardriders series that Marchant has previously won a number of times.

Best rider on the day in ideal conditions was Richard Marsh (Somer Valley CC) who, with home advantage, posted 1-05.42.

Peter Kench (Liphook Cycles RT) was next with 1-06.22, followed by Marchant in 1-06.50. Swindon's Chris Broad-Drake was third rider back in 1-16.56.

Bath CC's ten-mile TT, held on the A419 near Cirencester, produced several personal bests.

Junior Daniel Higgs, who is greatly improving this season, clocked 23min 35sec to shave 1.15 off his previous PB of 24.50.

Chris Pike beat an 11-year-old PB of 21.34 when timing at 20.50. This was also fast enough to earn him joint second place overall.

The weekly ten-mile TT in perfect weather attracted 39 riders from SRC and the Corinium Cycling Club.

Fastest was Mitch Robison, an American who rides for Milden-hall, in 22.58. But the surprise of the night came from Swindon junior Tim Morris.

As well as slashing an amazing 1.15 minutes off his previous best, he took third overall on the night. Results for the SRC riders are as follows:

T Morris 23.55 (PB), C Broad-Drake 24.01, R Merrison 24.15 (PB), T Sherwood 24.20, C Bishop 24.26, D Barter 24.47 (PB), M Ackary 24.52, D Higgs 25.05, T Jordan 25.21, C Hayter 25.22, D Jeffrey 25.33 (PB), J Schwartz 25.33, J Smith 25.34, M Allen 26.00, R Patterson 26.16, A Hughes 26.30, C Gwyther 26.31 (PB), N Lowe 26.51 (PB), R Green 27.23, A Semple 27.34, R Cantwell 27.41 (PB).
