HAVING lost twice at Wolverhampton, the Pebley Beach Swindon Robins speedway team put the record straight with an emphatic Knockout Cup victory at Blunsdon Stadium on Thursday evening of last week.
Romping to a 56-38 win to take the two-leg match 99-88, they did it without the services of Charlie Gjedde who will be sidelined for some time with a broken leg.
Both teams were forced to use rider replacement for their injured riders as Wolves were without Daniel Nermark.
But it was the loss of heat leader Gjedde that looked to be the more devastating blow.
However, all Swindon riders performed on the night and that was surely a welcome sight for promoter Alun Rossiter who has seen his reserves struggling this term.
With Olly Allen and Andy Smith bagging eight points apiece and Steve Masters six, to back up fine displays by the heat leaders, it was always going to be the hosts' night.
It was a meeting Swindon never looked like losing and Wolves were forced to use their first tactical ride in heat eight, although that proved a failure as Sam Ermolenko's double-point outing ended in third place behind David Ruud and Allen
The next heat was far more profitable for the visitors with Michael Max using his tactical to full effect for six points - but his team still trailed by ten.
Swindon finished comfortable winners with Grand Prix ace Leigh Adams and Steve Johnston bagging a dozen points apiece while Ruud, who has had his critics at Blunsdon, claimed a fine ten. Results as follows:
Swindon 56 (Leigh Adams 12, David Ruud 10, Steve Johnston 12, Andy Smith 8, Steve Masters 6, Olly Allen 8).
Wolverhampton 38 (David Howe 2, Adam Skornicki 3, Sam Ermolenko 15, Mikael Max 14, James Grieves 3, Eric Carrillo 1). Aggregate: Swindon 99, Wolverhampton 88.
