THE brave manager of one of Cirencester's most popular bars has been praised for his bravery after he single-handedly fought a fire that broke out in the kitchen.

But, despite containing the initial source of the blaze, Rene Blamey was forced to evacuate Mackenzie's in Castle Street when it spread to the roof and firefighters were called in.

PARKING meters in Tetbury have been vandalised in protest at Cotswold District Council's massive increase in charges.

Two parking meters were attacked with glue in Tetbury last Thursday, but then all were targeted with expanding foam, which was pumped into the machines over the Easter weekend.

Residents and traders believe the new tariffs will drive business away, prevent people doing their jobs and lead to congestion in residential streets.

CIRENCESTER Town FC are celebrating promotion - with four games left of the season.

And they are hoping to turn on the style for a little while longer in a bid to win the Dr Marten's Western Division title.

The Centurions secured promotion with a 0-0 draw against Clevedon on Monday - making it the most successful league campaign in the club's history.
