PURTON'S unbeaten league run continues apace and they have now opened up a ten-point lead at the top of the table.
The Red House side were indebted to their closest rivals, Shrivenham and Ross Town, who lost and drew respectively while Purton won 2-1 at Winterbourne United, writes Alan Eastwood.
Their victory at Winterbourne was one of the best by Purton in the past couple of months in a game they dominated, and they might well have netted seven or eight goals as they were so much in command.
In the opening couple of minutes, Hughes came close for the visitors and Winterbourne saw a headed effort go wide.
From a Hughes' corner on seven minutes, Chris Lang headed over from six yards, and the same player later on put two other close-range efforts over the home woodwork from good positions.
And the visitors' leading scorer, Eurshell Fearon, then headed wide and also shot wide while Kenny Hawkins mis-hit an effort followed by a Kenny Hughes shot that was saved.
On 32 minutes, Steve Avenell, who led the Bristol side's defence a merry dance, was fouled in the box but the officials turned down penalty appeals.
But a penalty kick awarded when Avenell was fouled on 35 minutes was blasted in off a post by Kenny Hughes, giving Purton a 1-0 half-time lead.
In the second, there was more of the same, but Winterbourne did manage to mount a couple of threatening attacks.
Avenell (twice) Wyatt, Webb, Saunders and Hughes all had efforts on goal, but it was Steve Avenell who scored the Wiltshire team's second goal on the hour after some-non stop pressure.
And although Winterbourne reduced the area on 79 minutes when Rhodes scored with a back headed, they were a well beaten side on the day.
