RACING seems to be dominating the Corinium Cycling Club scene at present as early season enthusiasm has dragged a number of members away from the usual Sunday morning runs.
And it's riders of Swindon RC who are already showing a remarkable turn of speed on the Latton ten-mile time trial course.
On of them, Jason Costello, began where he left off last season by recording a 23min 53sec ride - the fastest time of the meeting.
Second place went to G Lancaster (24.04) while Chris Broadrake reaped the rewards of a good winter's training as well as a few open events under his belt by powered round in 25.24.
Quickest Corinium rider and showing a return to form was John Howells with 25.31 while second spot fell to Mike Dolman who posted a fine 26.10.
Suffering mechanical misfortune just yards from the start was Cliff Dutton who returned with 26.28, despite unshipping his chain. Full details and results of this event on www.coriniumcc.co.uk
Following the racing, Peter Holden and Cliff Dutton rode over to Northleach via Meysey Hampton, Sunhill and Ready Token.
The climbs from Ablington to The Hanger Piece and then to the Eastington turn testing Cliff's climbing legs as he was still aboard his time trial machine.
A stop for tea in Northleach gave him the opportunity to change to a more suitably geared bike and then they were off again.
Peter expressed an interest in riding to Winchcombe, but Cliff persuaded him to settle instead for Bourton-on-the-Water. Peter, though, insisted on a circuitous route through Hampnet and almost to Guiting Power.
After a fine lunch at The Croft in Bourton, the two headed out towards Great Rissington turning right before the village and climbing the fierce ascent up to Clapton-on-the-Hill.
Next village was Farmington, followed by a sweeping descent back to Northleach where the two parted company with Peter heading back to Cirencester.
