On-song United FC rattle in six goals against high-riding Ardley

CIRENCESTER United produced a remarkable 6-3 league victory on Wednesday of last week to beat an Ardley team which had lost only four games this season and conceded 25 goals in the process.

Going into the game without regulars Martin Richings, Jon Austin, Ben Potter and Mat Keslake, manager Ivor Probert drafted in Paul Richings, Sean Kirby and Tony Wilkinson from the Reserves while midfielder Chris Robinson took over in goal.

Stuart Robinson made his debut in attack with brother Graham which meant three brothers played in the same team.

Debutant Stuart Robinson made an immediate impact when he pulled the ball back for Chris Underhill to score with just 19 seconds on the clock.

Ardley countered and played some good football but did not have a serious effort on goal until the 27th minute when Spittle equalised direct from a free kick.

However, United countered straight away as Graham and Stuart Robinson combined well for Stuart to score from 20 yards.

But the visitors fought back and Markman equalised on 37 minutes with a fine individual goal.

The second half began with United scoring in 14 seconds.

As Ardley kicked off and played the ball back, Graham Robinson charged down a clearance and Stuart Robinson saw his shot well saved, only for Graham to score from the rebound.

With the Ardley defence unable to cope with the pace of the Robinson brothers, a fourth goal arrived on 51 minutes when Chris Antone split the defence with a pass for Sean Kirby to beat keeper for number four.

Stuart Robinson then had another effort well saved before brother Graham scored number five on 80 minutes.

With United well in control, a corner from Phil Scarlett was met by Danny Lawrence to head his first-ever goal for the first team in the 82nd minute.

Markman headed his second of the game as a late consolation for Ardley, but the night belonged to United.
