Music from the courts of kings

WITH recent interest in the life of Charles I and II through television and film, two concerts in Cirencester, a week apart, will focus on music from the royal courts of the two kings.

Both concerts will be held at Bingham House, Dyer Street on Saturday, March 27 and Saturday, April 3, at 7.30pm, and will feature music by Purcell, Byrd, Gibbons and Morley, sung by Cantores Madrigalists and played by Ensemble de Medici. Harpsichordist Richard Lester will also play music on the virginals.

The concerts will help to raise funds for the Cirencester Early Music Festival which this year runs from July 18-24 and has already established itself as one of England's premiere music festivals, attracting sponsorship from local thriving business.

Tickets for both concerts from Cirencester TIC (01285 654180) or on the door.

Schola Cantorum, who were to have sung, have withdrawn owing to unforeseen circumstances.
