Soccer playing ladies have the wind taken out of their sails

THE title ambitions of Cirencester Town ladies received a severe setback on Sunday when the side lost 3-5 away to their close league rivals University of Bristol.

On a blustery day, Cirencester put in a below-par performance and this win for University of Bristol takes them back to top of the table.

The visitors, playing uphill and into the wind, just couldn't get going and were soon trailing 0-1 after failing to clear the ball.

After pulling level, when the ball looped over from a Chrissy Dudman corner for Linda Weaven to head home, they conceded another soft goal shortly after.

Worse followed when Town let in another goal to go in at half- time 1-3 down.

Twenty minutes into the second half, the away team put the pressure back on when Joey Clarkson crossed a good ball over for Mandy Brown to volley in a great goal.

But again, Town relaxed and let in another two goals which didn't give themselves much hope to get back into the game.

Nonetheless, they did manage to pull one back when Linda Weaven ran through to slot home.

In the end, though, not too many players came away from this game with much credit.

Linda Weaven won player of the match with her normal solid sweeper role in the first half and looked dangerous when pushed up front for the last half-an-hour.
