Kate Moss: An Apology

On 4 March 2004, we published an article under the headline "Cottage 'trashed' by star" which was trailed on the front page as "Kate Moss trashed my house".

The article concerned damage that had been caused to the cottage that Kate Moss had rented.

This was also the subject of an article on our website and of editorial comment.

We wish to emphasise that, as our article made clear, the damage to the cottage was in fact flood damage as a result of burst pipes when Kate Moss and her partner, Jefferson Hack, were on holiday.

A dispute then arose as to who should be liable for the cost of repairing the damage.

This was settled without any admission of liability.

We accept that Kate Moss did not literally "trash" the cottage that she had rented.

We accept also that she did not seek to improperly avoid and delay the settlement of the claim.

We are sorry if the article and editorial comment were understood in this way and apologise to Kate Moss for any embarrassment or distress she may have been caused.
