DESPITE a less than convincing display, Cirencester 1st XI hockey team still won their Gerrard League game versus Gloucester A by the convincing margin of 7-1 on Saturday.
But in a lack-lustre first half, Town failed to recapture the champagne style of play that had seen them storm to victory in the HA Vase the previous weekend.
Fortunately, Gloucester were also below-par and so one goal apiece at half-time was a fair representation of the play.
The hosts opened the scoring with a scrappy goal that came from a short corner with the ball finally forced home by Panstee.
And the visitors' reply was also via a short corner, a crisp shot finding the corner of the net.
The only other positive aspect of an otherwise dull first half was the efforts of Town keeper Webb who was called upon to make a number of fine saves.
An inspired half-time substitution brought on John Tasker who proceeded to give an outstanding demonstration of flair and attacking creativity which saw him claiming a hat-trick.
This led to a Cirencester revival and, inspired by the example of the substitute, Paine found the net twice and Panstee added to his first half score.
Gloucester were unable to find any response to this resurgence by their opponents and the game finished comfortably in favour of the hosts.
This Sunday's re-arranged HA Vase quarter-finals against Urmston is at Manchester Uni-versity sports ground, 12.15pm start.
Will all those wishing to go along and support, please contact John Tasker with regard to transport arrangements.
