Cracking goal from Underwood brings United three points

A CRACKING goal from Chris Underhill ten minutes from time was enough for Cirencester United to pick up another three valuable league points at home to Nomads on Saturday.

As Chris Robinson was suffering a groin strain and Gary Probert unavailable, Cirencester manager Ivor Probert was forced to make a couple of changes.

With Dan Lawrence starting in midfield and Phil Scarlett returning to the starting line-up, United began well and Chris Antone tested the Nomads' keeper with a fierce drive which was tipped over the bar for a corner.

An astute pass from Chris Underhill gave Graham Robinson a clear site of goal, but he shot wide of a post before Phil Scarlett clipped the bar from a direct free kick 25 yards out.

The visitors started to see more of the game and should have taken the lead just before half-time, but Mat Keslake saved well with the attacker clean through.

In the second half and with both teams looking for a win, United began to look the more likely.

Graham Robinson had an appeal for a penalty turned down and Dan Lawrence put his diving header just wide of a post.

The only goal, which arrived ten minutes from time, was worthy of winning any match.

Underhill, who picked up the ball in the centre circle before exchanging passes with Ben Potter, hit a fantastic shot from 18 yards.

A fine run from Phil Scarlett set up Graham Robinson, whose shot was well saved, and Phil had a goal-bound effort blocked on the line as United ended strongly.

Another strong performance by the defence meant a clean sheet for the second game running and back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
