Lynn Chadwick Exhibition

SCULPTURE by Lynn Chadwick, who worked and lived in Gloucestershire from 1946 until his death in 2003, is on display at Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum until March 21.

Lynn Chadwick was one of the leading British sculptors of the post war generation and gained international acclaim after winning the international sculpture prize at the Venice Biennale in 1956.

The Lypiatt Studio has lent one of his pieces, 214 Encounter VI, a bronze sculpture of two figures, to Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum for the duration of the exhibition.

"The display of this sculpture was organised to celebrate the work of one of the best 20th century sculptors and to promote the exhibition of his work at Tate Britain which is on until March 21.

Chadwick's sculpture is recognised for its sensitivity, beauty and originality; this pair of figures, although semi abstract, convey a sense of warmth and tenderness," said exhibitions officer Sophie Wilson.

Lynn Chadwick's work is represented in some of the major galleries worldwide. Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum has one of his pieces, Second Girl Sitting on a Bench 1988, in its permanent collections and on display in the 20th century gallery.

Museum opening times are Monday to Saturday, 10am-5.20pm and on Sundays from 2-4pm.
