Happy 100th, Dr Seuss!

YOUNGSTERS IN Malmesbury celebrated the centenary of a world-famous author last Thursday.

Twenty-nine children from the ages of four to seven came to Malmesbury's Cross Hayes library sang happy birthday to Dr Seuss, whose stories have entertained scores of kids across the world, and who would have been 100 years old this year.

The kids celebrated the occasion by making hats and listened and watched as librarian Carolyn Kennedy acted out one of Dr Seuss's most famous tales, the Cat in The Hat , complete with costume as part of the event, with help from colleague Susan Smith.

A library spokesman said: "Reading is an important activity for parents to share with their children, and an important activity for us to share with the community and an important activity for a nation of future readers."
