Fairford Town suffer a heavy defeat away to league leaders Didcot

FAIRFORD suffered a most humiliating 1-7 Hellenic Premier defeat away to title-chasing Didcot Town on Saturday.

The visitors, caught cold by the league leaders, found themselves 0-2 down after just ten minutes - and it didn't get any better in what was to be Fairford's first loss in two months.

"It's my worst defeat since I took on a manager's role at Fairford Town five years ago," Mark Webb was quick to concede.

He continued, "There's no doubt that we didn't play particularly well, but Didcot are intent on getting promotion this season and have signed a number of top-notch players.

"In fact, I was very surprised to see that Mark Ford, a former professional with Oxford United, who is reputedly on a huge amount for each game, sitting it out on the subs' bench."

However, due to the unavailability of a number of his regulars, Webb has himself taken a dip into the transfer market.

And his latest newcomer is Adam Paul, a defender who previously played for Shortwood United and Slimbridge.

This Saturday's league fixture sees Fairford home to Abingdon (3pm ko).

For next week's mid-week league match, Fairford are away to North Leigh on Tuesday evening, 7.45pm ko.
