Fairford Town FC in with a chance of some silverware this season

FAIRFORD Town are in with a chance of some silverware this season after making it through to the final of the Norman Matthews Floodlit Cup.

After beating Gloucester United 2-1 in the first leg of their semi-final at Cinder Lane, Fairford then clinched the second leg away to City on Wednesday evening of last week.

The solitary goal in their 1-0 victory was scored by Matthews in the 32nd minute, giving them a 3-1 overall winning margin.

As a result, Fairford will now meet Slimbridge, who defeated Bishops Cleeve 3-1 (4-1 overall) at the same stage just a night earlier, in the final itself.

In last Saturday's Premier League game, which ended in a 1-1 draw, it took a goal from Lovegrove two minutes from time for Fairford to salvage a share of the spoils.

In the match, played at Cinder Lane, the Chipping Norton visitors moved into a 1-0 lead with a goal scored from the penalty spot by Court four minutes after the interval.

For this Saturday's Premier League fixture, Fairford are set for to a trip to Didcot Town.

In next Wednesday evening's local league derby, Fairford are Town home to Highworth Town, 7.30pm ko.
