LECHLADE Town Council has formed a sub-committee to explore the possibility of buying one of the town's oldest and most interesting buildings.
A team of four councillors will carry out a feasibility study into the future use of the Grade II listed building on the halfpenny bridge.
The idea was suggested by mayor Mike Cawsey at last week's town council meeting.
He said: "What I would like to suggest is to get a sub-committee of perhaps four people and look at the Toll House.
"Whether we want to buy it, what we could do with it, whether it's of any advantage to us.
"It's one of the most interesting buildings about."
Cllr Don Gillard responded: "I think if you could find - and I think you could for something like that - three or four people with a big pocket we might get them interested.
"There are people in the town which have expertise and influence and might want to take part in a feasibility study."
Cllrs Maureen Seale, Robert Long, Peter Whistler and Arthur Chase volunteered to form the committee.
Last summer the Toll House was damaged by divers who used it as a platform to leap into the River Thames, upsetting passengers on passing pleasure cruises and causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
