Cirencester Town FC's longest league run comes to an end

CIRENCESTER Town finally surrendered the longest unbeaten league run in their history with a 1-2 loss away to Halesowen on a miserably cold Tuesday evening.

But on the back of a 15-match run, a lively Cirencester side looked the more likely to add to that unbeaten sequence.

A well directed header from Scott Griffin rattled the home crossbar in the first ten minutes before Andy McCabe did likewise soon after.

In fact, it was McCabe who set up the first strike of the night when he crossed to Gareth Hopkins who nodded in Town's goal in the 18th minute for what was the only goal of the half.

After the break, Halesowen pushed forward in numbers from the start. And with Cirencester still holding on to a slender 1-0 lead, their opponents scored twice in a matter of just four minutes.

In the first of them, Simon Hollis blasted his effort into the back of the Town net in the 74th minute after Paul Thompson had parried a Richard Ball free kick.

And when the visitors conceded a free kick on the edge of their penalty area two minutes later, Asa Charlton banged in his chance.

Last Saturday's scheduled league game at Cinderford was called off by the home club.
