LONG-TIME Hellenic League Division One West leaders Purton completed a double over Clanfield on Saturday, a 3-0 victory extending the Wiltshire side's advantage over their close rivals.
With Ardley United and Ross Town both losing, the front-running Red House side increased their lead at the top to nine points.
Purton dominated the first half with Lee Curtis and Mitchell Wyatt up front causing the Clanfield defenders no end of problems.
It was 2-0 to Purton at the half-way stage, but it could have been seven or eight as the home keeper made some good saves and the Clanfield woodwork was struck three times.
Lee Curtis put the visitors in front on 31 minutes when a shot by Mitchell Wyatt was pushed out by the keeper for Curtis to net from 12 yards.
A great cross from the left on 40 minutes enabled Tom Dingle to steal in and side-foot home with Toby Fowler the provider.
In the second half, Purton again carved out chances with Wyatt and Curtis going close and a Toby Clark 45-yard free kick tipped over by the keeper.
Kenny Hawkins, Nick Dodd and Craig Shand all came on in the second half. This was the seventh win on the trot for Purton who remain unbeaten in a remarkable season so far.
