Andy, Joanna and all that jazz

THE OXFORD Playhouse is delighted to announce the return of one of its favourites, the critically acclaimed saxophonist Andy Sheppard on Thursday, January 22.

Joining him for the one night only, renewing their celebrated partnership, is Joanna MacGregor, one of the country's leading pianists.

Both Andy and Joanna have been entertaining their listeners for a number of years. After being introduced to the music of John Coltrane at the age of 19, Andy immediately went out and bought his first saxophone.

He released his debut album in 1987 and it was an immediate success with critics, fans and listeners alike.

Winning Best Newcomer at the British Jazz Awards boosted his success. Throughout his successful career to date, Andy has explored diverse musical interests and collaborations, working with artists such as Carla Bley, Gil Evans and Sharda Sahai.

Joanna MacGregor's all-embracing career combines the established piano repertoire complemented by her passion for jazz and new music.

She is widely thought of as one of the most innovative and wide-ranging of today's pianists, and divides her time between all traditions. She has performed in over 40 countries and last year gave recitals and concerto performances in Scandinavia, Western and Eastern Europe, Australia, the United States and the Far East.

The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets from the box office on 01865 305305.
