Speedway promoter Rossiter signs manager for the Spockets

SWINDON Speedway promoter Alun Rossiter has announced the appointment of Martin Satchell as manager of the Team Artdeans Sprockets for 2004.

Satchell is a Swindon man through and through, having been born in the town in 1962.

Indeed, as well as being a former Sprocket himself, he made several appearances for the senior Robins side in 1981.

On breaking the news, Rosco commented: "I've quickly realised just how much time and work is involved in the running of Swindon Speedway and the appointment of Martin as boss of the team Artdeans Sprockets will make life a lot easier for me.

"Martin has ridden a bike and knows what it's all about. He is very keen to help the youngsters come on and, with his experience as an FIM machine examiner, he will also be able to sort out any equipment problems the lads might encounter."

Several potential names have already been linked with the Team Artdeans Sprockets, including 2003 team member and white-line specialist Adam Roynon, Isle of Wight acquisition Chris Johnson and Australian Daniel Harding, who is the brother of 2003 King's Lynn rider, Trevor.

The press and practice day for the Pebley Beach Robins has been set for Thursday, March 4 at the Abbey Stadium.

Rossiter explained: "Due to the fact that the speedway exhibition is at Stoneleigh on March 7, we couldn't run on that day.

"And with our first home meeting set for March 11 against Poole in the Champagne Stakes, that date was also excluded.

"I know it's obviously going to be difficult for the general public to attend, but it will at least fall in nicely with the press and media."

The Champagne Stakes meetings versus Poole aside, another fixture confirmed for the Pebley Beach Robins is a challenge match at the Isle of Wight on Tuesday, April 6.

The meeting will in fact open the season for the Islanders with Rossiter stating: "I know the trip to the Isle of Wight has always been a popular one with the Swindon supporters.

"In agreeing to it, it will not only open the Islanders season in grand style against Elite League opposition, but also give the Robins' Army another chance to enjoy a trip across the Solent."
