United bow of the cup at the hands Premier Division opposition

A SUPPLEMENTARY first round cup-tie at the home of Hellenic Premier side Tuffley Rovers proved as difficult as expected for Cirencester United.

With the club's reserve game postponed, due to a waterlogged Four Acres, Adam Swinford and Paul Richings accompanied the first team to Glevum Park.

Around 50 spectators, who braved the elements, were treated to a good spectacle and the players of United manager Ivor Probert put in a solid 90 minutes.

In what was only his side's second game since December 6, Probert's charges had their fair share of chances, although United keeper Matt Keslake was the busier of the two custodians.

As it was, the visitors conceded goals after five and 34 minutes, both the results of sloppy mistakes.

But with Jon Austin and Phil Scarlett working their socks off, Tuffley didn't score again until the 77th and 84th minutes.

In between, Matt Hanks and Graham Robinson had chances which on another day they would surely have taken.

Tuffley scorers were Cresswell the first and last goal, which was an excellent strike into the top corner, and Meadows also netted twice.

United 1st XI, who are due to entertain Winterbourne tonight (Thursday), have no game this Saturday while the Reserves play host to Cheltenham Saras, 2.15pm at the Four Acres.
