New classroom unveiled

HUNDREDS of helium-filled balloons filled the sky over Northleach on Friday.

They were released by children at the local primary school to mark the completion of a £250,000 building project.

Work had been underway since June to create a new classroom and toilet facilities.

Headteacher Debby Harris said: "Twenty-seven children from Class Four will be using the new classroom.

"The reason for the project is that many buildings being used by the children are temporary. They need replacing and the school is expanding.

"Pupils numbers are increasing gradually, which needs to be catered for.

"The project is reflecting the needs of a busy, thriving community school. We can't keep giving quality education to children in dated surroundings."

She said the new class room is going to be an IT centre long term because more classrooms are going to be built.

The school, of 136 pupils, also marked the day with a singing session and a bite of cake.
