Prom performance for Hammond

LOCAL musician Ruth Hammond, from Swindon, plays at The Prom in Bristol's Promenade, Gloucester Road, tomorrow, Friday, January 16.

In her first album release, All the Good Things (Tenterhook Records), Ruth has written nine songs full of warmth and soulful simplicity.

Her sound has an understated funkiness and her songs manage to sound retro and refreshingly modern at the same time.

She draws her inspiration from master songwriters such as Sting, Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan and James Taylor.

Ruth has worked extensively, playing saxophone, with the internationally successful pop group Morcheeba, touring with them and recording on their latest album, Charango.

She also plays the funky Hammond organ with the Forster-Hammond Trio (who are featured on the new Acid Jazz release Hammond Street) and has just formed her own jazz trio (http://www.ruthhammondtrio.com)

Ruth has appeared on TV's Later - with Jules Holland, played a weeklong residency at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London and was interviewed on Radio 4's Woman's Hour as a representative of up and coming female musicians.

Telephone The Prom on 0117 949 5830 for tickets.
