DEMAND for tickets for the legendary jazz/rock supergroup Colosseum has been brisk since they went on sale at The Arts Centre.
"Fans clearly recognise that this is a major coup for us and know that Colosseum are six outstanding musicians who will deliver a fantastic evening of great music," said arts centre manager Clarry Bean.
Formed in 1968 by drummer Jon Hiseman, saxophonist Dick Heckstall-Smith and bassist Tony Reeves, all of whom had previously been in John Mayall's Bluebreakers, the band was completed by keyboard wizard Dave Greenslade and guitarist/vocalist James Litherland.
Reeves and Litherland were subsequently replaced by Mark Clark and Dave 'Clem' Clemson, before the band was joined by former R&B singer and chart topper Chris Farlowe in time to record their legendary Daughter of Time third album.
It is this awesome line-up who are now out performing again and visit the Arts Centre on January 16.
In late 1971, Colosseum split up when Jon Hiseman decided to call it a day. They left a legacy of four tremendous albums and an enduring reputation of outstanding live performers.
In 1994 the band re-formed for a Music Festival appearance in Germany, receiving a rapturous welcome when they launched into Those Who Are About to Die.
Two European tours followed plus a studio album Bread and Circuses.
Now Colosseum are to embark on another European tour to promote their latest studio release.
Look forward to blistering music performed by six incredibly talented jazz rock musicians. Colosseum is back.
