Fairford take a dim view of a floodlight failure at North Leigh

A FLOODLIGHT failure in the second half of Saturday's Hellenic Premier League fixture at North Leigh meant an early bath for players of Fairford Town FC.

The Cinder Lane visitors were trailing to the only goal of the game, scored by Lewis after 13 minutes, when the match had to be abandoned after 55 minutes.

Despite being a goal behind, Fairford manager Mark Webb was confident that it was a match that Fairford could well have won.

He said, "We gave away that goal, due to our failure to properly defend at a corner.

"It was an evenly contested game and Lee Stoddart had a great chance to put one into the back of the North Leigh net, only to see their keeper making a great save."

Webb, though, was hopeful of a positive result in last night's (Wednesday) first leg of the Norman Matthews Floodlit Cup semi-final at home to Gloucester United.

His comment was, "They may well be bottom of Premier League table at the moment, but I have a feeling that Bobby Gould (ex-Cheltenham Town manager) is assisting the Gloucester team in some capacity or other.

"And it's quite conceivable that he will be drafting in a number of newcomers for this mid-week clash who would normally be unavailable for a Saturday game."

This Saturday, Fairford are set to return to league action with a home fixture against Pewsey Vale (3pm ko).

For next Tuesday's mid-week Premier League match, Fairford are away to Chipping Norton Town (7.45pm ko).
