Purton FC take three points in a convincing win over Woodstock

DIVISION One front-runners Purton returned to league action in style to take all three points in a convincing 4-0 win over their Old Woodstock Town hosts.

Apart from a sluggish opening ten minutes, when they give away a couple of early corners and saw skipper Martin Thompson heading off the line. Purton dominated the rest of Saturday's game, writes Alan Eastwood.

In fact, they could well have won by a larger margin as they ran the home side ragged.

On 15 minutes, Eurshell Fearon headed wide following a Kenny Hughes' corner.

A great run and cross by Allan Webb finished with Fearon having a shot tipped on to the bar by the home keeper and, a minute later, he turned aside a 25-yard shot from Toby Clark.

On 18 minutes, Purton went in front. Kenny Hughes crossed, Martin Thompson headed on and Allan Webb despatched a well placed header into the corner of the net.

After more neat work by Webb, who beat his man on the right, a left-footed cross enabled Eurshell Fearon to sweep Purton into a 2-0 lead on 29 minutes.

Soares then shot over when well placed and, from a cross by Toby Clark, the same player headed over the bar.

Right on half-time, another Hughes' cross resulted in a Fearon header being saved.

In the second half, Purton carried on as they had ended the first and added two more goals.

On 80 minutes, substitute Craig Shand took a pass from Toby Clark down the left and his perfect cross was converted by Fearon.

Fearon turned provider on 85 minutes. After breaking free on the right, his cross was met by Ritchie Saunders, who had raced 40 yards before turning his effort into the Woodstock net.

An otherwise excellent all round team display by Purton was spoilt only by the sending-off of Kenny Hughes in the second half.

This Saturday sees Purton home to Middle Barton.
