Hockey team demolishes West Wilts rivals in a 9-2 victory

HAVING earned a creditable 2-2 draw at Cardiff a week earlier to go fourth in the table, Cirencester 1st XI followed up with a 9-2 demolition of sixth-placed West Wilts on Saturday.

With much encouragement from their coach, the Town team looked confident at the start of this home fixture.

With clear dominance demonstrated from the outset, and it was not long before the hosts' quick passing and smooth teamwork was rewarded with two goals in quick succession.

However, having established a 2-0 lead, concentration in the home camp seemed to slip.

Due to careless passing from the defence, a lack of possession in midfield and attackers aimlessly wandering around the far end of the pitch, West Wilts pulled it back to 4-2 at half-time.

But following the break, Cirencester re-emerged as a far more focussed unit.

Despite a complacent ten minutes in the second period, five more goals, including one from unanimous man of the match Rob Duffy, saw Cirencester cruise to a crushing 9-2 victory.
