Tributes to 'caring' Phill Grice

THE girlfriend of Phill Grice, who was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Cirencester, has paid a loving tribute to the "caring" bakery manager.

The 22-year-old died after he was hit by a car on Burford Road, during the early hours of last Sunday morning.

His girlfriend Zoe Milner, aged 18, with whom he shared a flat in Dyer Street, Cirencester, was quick to praise the fun-loving music fan.

She said: "Phill was someone who liked a laugh and loved to be with his friends. We had celebrated his birthday recently and had a great time.

"As well as being a good laugh, Phill was responsible and a hard worker. He was hoping to become a duty manager at Somerfield and had a lot of friends.

"Everyone who worked there knew him, and so did the regular customers that used to come in."

Phill worked at the Hare's Bush branch of Somerfield and was heading there with a group of friends when the accident happened, at around 12.30am on Sunday, November 9.

Zoe also works at the store and Phill was known at both the Bear and Black Horse pubs in Cirencester, where he regularly socialised with friends.

His other interests were his large music collection and enjoying meals out.

Flowers were laid at the scene, with touching tributes to Phill, who moved to Cirencester from Bromsgrove in June.

Zoe's mother Jane said: "Phill was such a nice, caring person, you couldn't have wished to meet a nicer man and he would do absolutely anything he could to help anyone out.

"He was a lovely man, it is such a waste that he is no longer here."

* The body of local businessman Maurice Anderson, who police believe was driving the car involved, was later found at his company offices in Love Lane, after he took his own life.

Mr Anderson ran engineering firm MAP (Maurice Anderson Partnership) and had recently moved from Cold Aston to Guiting Power with his young family.

His Saab car was discovered in a company workshop with frontal damage.

Inquests into the deaths of both men were opened by Cotswold corner Lester Maddrell last week and adjourned to a date to be fixed.
