IN the Preliminary Round of the Egham Trophy, a National Mixed Inter-Club competition organised by the English Women's Indoor Bowling Association, Fairford Bowling Club managed a win against Thamesdown and now face Cotswold IBC in the next round on November 23.
The men fared less well in their first Wessex League match by winning on only one rink and losing on three, thus scoring just two points.
On a brighter note, Fairford ladies triumphed over their Perdiswell counterparts in the opening round of the Yetton Trophy, another National Inter- Club competition run by the EWIBA, with the following results.
Fairford Ladies (home rinks): A Harris, F Hackling, J D'Elia, J Sullivan, 20 shots; T Winney, D Akers, V Hall, J Lock, 15 shots; (away rinks): J Bennett, S Bannister, E Hope, J Hayward, 28 shots; S Brooke, C Bromly, A Fisher, M Hale, 22 shots.
Perdiswell Ladies (away rinks): A Taylor, I Yeomans, P Jew, A Case, 18 shots; J Smith, A Perks, J Chapple, W Aldred, 19 shots; (home rinks): E Carter, T Holland, K Brookes, J Taylor, 17 shots; F Jones, M haywood, G Hobday, M Borthwick, 26 shots.
Members of Cirencester Multiple Sclerocis Society were recently entertained on the Fairford indoor green.
Paul Orsler, aided by his father Bob, gave instruction to the visitors, helping them to bowl from their wheelchairs.
A special ramp built by club member Norman Brown enabled those in wheelchairs to gain access to the green.
Janette Coomb said that her members had really enjoyed the experience and looked forward to the next time.
