IN brilliant autumn sunshine, Fairford RFC put on a sparkling display of simple but effective rugby against a gallant and eventually outclassed second string from Minchinhampton RFC by 49 points to nil.
Skipper Ants Little, back in his preferred position of No 8, led the way for Fairford with storming runs and two tries.
The home pack won consistent ball at both lineout and scrum, giving the opportunity for their backs to run at the opposition.
Flankers Biff and Chris were highly effective about the field and Yankee's Don and Joe were always a problem with their strong running.
With many on the replacements bench to choose from, even when influential fly-half Gareth Hopkins went off, the standard of play remained high.
Constant pressure brought a continuous stream of tries for Fairford. Colin Bullock, Aiden Messer, Don, Chris, Peter Sloan all crossed for tries while Messer kicked two penalties and converted four of them.
Minchinhampton defended bravely and made some of their own breaks, including a final 50 yard dazzling run by their full-back who was tackled five metres short.
But Fairford's ability to put their Tuesday coaching sessions into a match situation proved too much to handle.
As the afternoon sun faded, even the Fairford team's assistant coach, Chris Clarke, had a smile on his face!
